About the Forum
Average lifespans across the Roanoke metro area range from 68.4 years in parts of Southeast Roanoke City to more than 81 years in areas of Roanoke County—less than 15 minutes apart. What explains this striking gap, and what can our region realistically do to improve health outcomes?
If most of us can agree on the “What”—a healthier, more thriving Roanoke Valley—where do reasonable people differ on the “How”?
What do different stakeholders in our community believe are the primary causes of these health disparities, and which approaches do they believe are most likely to improve outcomes over time?
Community participants will include: Dr. Cynthia Morrow, Regional Director, Virginia Department of Health; Dr. Lee Learman, Dean, Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine; and Aaron Boush, Community Health and Development Director, Carilion Clinic.
